>> the design
The Hull:
The Seafly hull is unusually full in the forward section levelling out to a single chine aft with good freeboard. This makes for a dry boat with exceptional stability. It has good boat speed without compromising the special feel of a well balanced dinghy.
Originally designed for wood construction either professionally or amateur built, there are also GRP and composite boats (GRP or FRP hulls with wooden decks).
The Bouyancy:
Bouyancy is built in with a 1/2 tank for'ard and in the contoured side tanks with a foam reserve.
The Deck:
The layout has always been a matter of personal preference. We have chosen to make it as uncomplicated as possible but we can modify - as far as it is practical - to the owners individual requirements.
The Centre Thwart:
The centre thwart is integrated with the centreboard casing and curves upwards and forward onto the side decks - a unique feature of all our new boats.
We offer:
- a standard/cruising boat
- a racing boat
- or a 'mix and match' from bare hull to finished boat
The standard/cruising dinghy has coremat for stiffening where appropriate, which gives both rigidity and lightness with less likelyhood of damage on impact with jettys, shores, or moving obstructions! The side decks are GRP with an FRP foredeck. The boat has recently been assigned Category C classification.
The standard boat is a 'no frills' version to which extras can be added.
The cruising boat can have dry bags strapped in aft of the bow bouyancy tank or at the the transom - or two smaller ones on the side tanks aft. It can also have:
- an allocated space for spares
- storage bags/pouches at the front of the side tanks, suggested uses 1st aid kit and/or spares
- an anchor fixing bracket
- the option of a gnav rather than a kicking strap (vang) greatly increases crew room
- a release cleat to prevent rudder damage
- transom trunks and/or self bailers
- floorboards
- 'D' fendering
The sails:
- a full suit with slab reefing and one line of reefing points
- OR a reduced cruising suit with no battens and loose footed, this sail can be reefed in under 1 minute on a single line and is also well suited for sailing singlehanded, or with an inactive crew, with or without a jib
- optional detachable masthead flotation pad
We are also happy to quote for any other individual requirements.
The racing dinghy has an FRP hull and foredeck with GRP side decks making for a lighter, faster, competitive edge. It also has:
- epoxy coated foils with protective strips and rudder bag
- transom trunks and/or self bailers
Cover options (choose from PVC or Acrylic Canvas):
- standard flat
- boom up
- raised over boom for camping
The trailer:
- combi trailer/trolley with specially shaped supports and jockey wheel
